A long awaited break… On zimmers and fun activities

A long awaited break… On zimmers and fun activities

I never thought I would say this, but I really needed a holiday. Don’t get me wrong. I have always enjoyed holidays. I just never appreciated them quite so much as I did this one. For me holidays  were about seeing  new things, having new experiences and perhaps  some pampering and a little shopping where the budget …

A Week of Scorpions

A Week of Scorpions

I’ve always been a big fan of insects. Not really something I discuss in social situations but somehow my love of spiders, beetles etc has been passed on to Jojo. He’s very into animals, has an extensive knowledge of birds, sea creatures and creepy crawlies but most especially, he loves scorpions. He goes on scorpion …

On Living in a New House

On Living in a New House

After 5.5 years of living in the holy land, we have finally moved into our home. Having lived in some fairly questionable accommodation these past years – freezing winters, black mould covering walls, cramped kitchens and our last house had a salon so small you couldn’t swing a cat (and believe me I tried, I …

It’s a boy! (again) Home Birth No.2

It’s a boy! (again) Home Birth No.2

11 March 2016

After what seemed to me like a very long pregnancy – the first time I actually made it to 38 weeks – I went into labour on a quiet Friday night. I have no idea how anyone makes it to the full 40 weeks. I was starting to get severely p*ssed off. Having reached a …

No.4 . A Shabbat Brit

No.4 . A Shabbat Brit

8 February 2016

We thought we had experienced all possible brit options – first one a small event in our home in london. Number 2 celebrated in shul on rosh hashanah with about 100 Olim. Third one on our yeshuv with an open invite. But this baby was born on shabbat. Which means a shabbat brit. Slightly more …

The Simple Life. On Birthday Parties for Small Boys.

The Simple Life. On Birthday Parties for Small Boys.

18 January 2016

So if your son turned 7, you were almost 37 weeks pregnant, and living in a tiny gaff …what would you do for a party? I told Jojo categorically NO PARTY. Just a small gathering because mummy might be having a baby! He was fine with that. So we decided on a 3 friends and …

To give junk. Or not to give junk?

To give junk. Or not to give junk?

14 December 2015

Please tell me I am not the only mum in this dilemma. I am continually surprised by the level of junk dishing-out in this country, but so far there has always been a reason. It’s a birthday, Its chanuka, its purim, its shabbat, its the end of the year…. You know they always have a …

On Building Our Home

On Building Our Home

Well, after much delay with our foundations (I thought I would spare you all the details) the frame of our lovely new wooden house is finally going up. And not before time. Our rental is getting entirely too cramped for 3 small boys. Well, actually they are just fine. We release them into the wild …

Sure you can swim. You just need to sell a kidney first.

14 November 2015

Moving out here I now realise there were a few things I took for granted living in London. I don’t particularly miss shopping, coffee shops, nightlife. There is some of this stuff if you don’t mind a drive, although I have noticed that for my ex-Town Mouse friends, they are dying of boredom in the …

Boys are fantastic and girls are elastic…

Boys are fantastic and girls are elastic…

30 October 2015

…or so the song went in Rosh Pinah Primary school circa 1986. Of course I sang it in reverse. And I’m sure we were not alone. One of the most fun things about watching my little boys grow up is observing their attitude to girls. My 5 year old Roni likes them. He’s friendly with …

My Story

This is the story of one family’s aliyah in 2010 to the North of Israel from just North of London, beginning 26th July 2010. At the time we were a family of 3, our delightful toddling little boy was 18 months and we were expecting a new baby just 7.5 weeks later.

In 2017 we are now a family of 7, after 4 boys we were blessed with a daughter. We invite you to join the trials, tribulations and (possibly) triumphs of emigrating to the holiest, and craziest country in the world, Israel.

Sadly, in 2020, just before the pandemic hit, the family became a family of 6 when the author, Deganit, passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, age 40.
