Escape from the Mould!

Escape from the Mould!

Our cold, damp, smelly house now has the added comfort of being completely dark, thanks to our landlady. [“I will fix the trissim tomorrow blah blah blah…”] thankfully we knew this wouldn’t happen and we were fed up of sitting in the dark so we gave up. Since Husband is away on business we fled to the comforts of Tel Aviv and some time with the grandparents. Making us officially the first people to come to Tel Aviv in search of fresh air since the Hill of Spring was founded over 100 years ago. We are in absolute luxury, insulated walls, no mould, heating, hot water on tap…. total bliss. Our house has been so cold lately we had been spending evenings huddled on the sofa with blankets. Some nights we just gave up and turned in, hence this blog has been so quiet. Our landlady cant wait to get back to her house in just a few weeks. We wish her luck.

And so, it seems we will be leaving Karmiel for greener pastures. We have stumbled on the most wonderful friends and a lovely community, but from a bricks and mortar perspective, we are deeply unimpressed with the housing here. After what we have seen, we are completely put off purchasing anything. Pretty much everyone we know says they have mould this winter, [ours seems to be storming into the lead though] and I think this might have been the result of cheap shoddy housing, as part of the governments aim to populate this sweet little town as fast as possible. The thought of leaving my friends leaves me raw, but as long as I have known I have wanted to live in a nice quiet yishuv, surrounded by trees. And so we are leaving the shops and bustle in search of greenery.

I suspect Yaroni will be very happy on a yishuv. He is incredibly independent and loves to explore. My children seem happiest in nature, and I would love them to experience the concept of playing outdoors without constant fear of traffic and kidnappers. I grew up next to London’s busiest roundabout, with the worlds creepiest subway, so I craved this as a child. Of course we might hate it and discover that we are indeed town mice. One never knows.

So in just 3 weeks we will be moving to Eshchar. A small yishuv just 10 minutes away from Karmiel. Lots of trees. I have always been a treehugger so I am thrilled.
